Welcome to the Aachen Project!

Aachen is an engine that allows text adventure games to be played inside instant messaging systems. This technology can also be used to create custom chat spaces and add power to live business messaging systems, but the games aspect is the most fun for us to explore.

This project has been running off and on for many years now, and has shifted its form and substance both in order to experiment with breaking technologies and also to adapt to the life events of the core contributors. However, the primary focus has remained the same- Build a communications system that encourages imaginative writing.

Right now is the best time to discover the project. We have a demonstration world up and running, and are evolving it each month. More than any previous time, aachen is easy to explore and enhance.

We will soon post information on how to explore our demo world. Please take a look and feel free to offer feedback!
